The Danish sportswear brand Hummel, in collaboration with the Greenland Football Association (KAK), proudly unveils a new and exclusive national team kit that embodies the spirit, culture, and resilience of the Greenlandic people. With a truly distinctive design, Hummel seeks to honour an extraordinary football community that unites Greenland across its vast distances and rich traditions.
Greenland boasts the lowest population density in the world, with 80 per cent of its landmass covered by an ice cap. For much of the year—up to eight months—persistent snow highlights the country’s harsh climate. Despite these challenges, one thing brings the world’s largest island together: football. With over one in ten residents actively participating in the sport, football in Greenland is more than a game—it’s a way of life, fostering a sense of identity and connection.
As a tribute to this unique footballing culture, Hummel has launched a new national team jersey inspired by Greenland’s rich heritage. The campaign, titled “The Remote Football Community,” underscores how football bridges the physical and environmental barriers of the island, connecting people from the ice cap to remote villages.
MORE THAN JUST A NATIONAL TEAM JERSEY
The jersey is adorned with motifs celebrating Greenlandic culture, including symbols such as tupilaks and tuukkaq’er, both rooted in local mythology. The tupilak signifies strength and spiritual guidance, while the tuukkaq represents courage and masculinity.
Traditional Greenlandic craft elements also feature, including avittat patterns commonly seen on kamiks and national costumes. These designs pay homage to Greenlandic arts and crafts, which are central to the country’s identity and proud traditions.
The new Greenland national team jersey will be available from Vintage Football Shirts
