Nobody had heard of Ezeta a few years ago but recently the kit designers from Rome, Italy have caught the eye of the football shirt community, not by designing kits for the top teams, but by taking fairly obscure clubs in the Rome region and putting them on the map by making amazing shirts. The latest is Boreale who play their football in the fifth tier of Italian football and the kit is inspired by The Battle of Milvian.
The Battle of Milvian
The Battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312 AD, took place between the Roman Emperors Constantine I and Maxentius. It takes its name from the Milvian Bridge, an important route over the River Tiber which played a major role in the battle. Constantine won the contest and thus began his imperial rule of Rome.
The 2023 Boreale Kits
Ezeta have produced four striking kit designs for the Italian team for 2023-24. This home (purple) and fourth (red) are a work of art, literally. The kits have artwork The Battle of the Milvian Bridge by Giulio Romano sublimated into the material and a panel across the chest which shows the painting in its full form in two tone purple and white. Both kits have purple collars and cuffs.
The away and third designs are equally as imposing with reference again to the battle and Emperors Constantine I. In the story of Constantine, Christ appeared and spoke to the Emperor, ordering him and his army to wear the Chi-Rho symbol on their shields. The symbol is seen throughout the design in each square, with the cross depicting the shield.
The whole design is complemented with a new crest by illustrator Dan Norris.
The shirts are available now at Vintage Football Shirts.
